Key idea: Your Families, Groups, Events, Chat, and Food lists are intended to be private
to your invited members. We do not publish your event content to the public web.
Information we collect
Account information
- Email address (used for login, verification, and invites)
- Display name (optional, used to show who posted/chat messages)
- Password (stored securely using one-way hashing; we do not store plain-text passwords)
Event and group content you create
- Families and Groups you create or join
- Events (title, description, date/time, location if provided)
- RSVP responses
- Food planning items (potluck/themed lists)
- Chat messages posted inside events
Technical information
- Basic server logs (e.g., IP address, user-agent, timestamps) for security, abuse prevention, and reliability
- Session identifiers/cookies to keep you signed in and protect your account
How we use information
- Provide core functionality (events, RSVPs, food lists, chat)
- Support invites and membership management (Families/Groups)
- Send essential emails (verification, invites, account-related messages)
- Protect security, prevent abuse, and maintain performance
- Improve the app based on aggregate usage patterns (not by selling your private content)
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in limited cases:
- With people you invite: Members of a Family/Group can see content within that Family/Group.
- Service providers: Hosting/email providers that help run the app (only as needed to operate the service).
- Legal/safety: If required by law or necessary to protect users and the service.
Cookies and sessions
Family toGETher uses cookies/session storage to keep you logged in and to protect your account.
These are essential to the service. You can control cookies in your browser settings, but disabling
them may prevent the app from working correctly.
Security
We use standard security practices such as secure password hashing and access controls to keep private areas private.
No system is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and reduce risk.
Data retention
We keep information as long as needed to provide the service and for legitimate business and security purposes
(for example, maintaining event history and preventing abuse).
Your choices and controls
- Update your profile: You can change your display name and account settings in your profile.
- Leave a Family/Group: You can remove yourself from a Family/Group (subject to role rules).
- Delete your account: If you want your account deleted, contact us (see below). We’ll confirm identity before processing.
Children’s privacy
Family toGETher is intended for general audiences and family organizers. If you believe a child has provided
personal information without appropriate permission, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
